4-day workshop
Join us for an immersive photography workshop in the breathtaking landscapes of Arniston and the Overberg! From the dramatic seascapes of Arniston’s rugged rock formations to the vibrant tapestry of blooming canola and wheat fields in the Overberg, springtime offers the perfect canvas for capturing nature’s beauty. Whether you’re looking to hone your landscape and seascape skills or explore creative compositions, this workshop will provide the inspiration and guidance to elevate your photography.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of Arniston and the Overberg with a photography workshop designed to ignite your creative passion. We’ll begin our days by capturing the first light of sunrise over the uniquely sculpted rocks of Arniston. These rugged formations, weathered by time and the relentless motion of the ocean, offer endless opportunities for striking compositions. Whether it’s the dramatic cliffs or the intricate rock pools, each sunrise brings new textures and light to work with. We’ll explore techniques for capturing the rich detail of these formations while playing with the golden hues of dawn, allowing the ocean to frame our shots perfectly.
To add more depth and motion to your images, we’ll incorporate the use of filters. Long exposures with neutral density (ND) filters will allow us to create stunning effects in the water’s movement, softening the waves into silky flows or capturing the dramatic crash of a wave against the rocks. Polarizing filters will be key in reducing glare and enhancing the colours of the water and sky, bringing out the rich contrast of blues and greens. We’ll explore how these tools can enhance your storytelling, creating dynamic and engaging compositions that draw viewers into the scene.
As the day transitions, we’ll chase the afternoon storms rolling through the expansive fields of the Overberg. This region is renowned for its vast, colourful landscapes, particularly during springtime when the fields are bursting with bright yellow canola and golden wheat. With the storms brewing in the distance, the dramatic skies provide an ideal backdrop for powerful landscape shots. As we track the storm clouds, we’ll be on the lookout for rainbows arching over the fields, windmills standing tall in the gusty winds, and the interplay of light and shadow as the sun begins to dip lower in the sky.
The evenings will culminate in the magic of sunset, where the soft, warm light bathes the fields and the clouds take on hues of pink and orange. As the storm clouds swirl, the light dances across the land, creating an atmosphere that’s both moody and awe-inspiring. This is the perfect time to experiment with different perspectives and compositions, capturing the drama of nature in all its forms. Whether it’s the sweeping vistas or the intimate details, you’ll leave this workshop with a portfolio that tells the story of South Africa’s diverse and ever-changing landscapes.
