CEDERBERG ARCHES WORKSHOP
1-4 September 2024

R9 500 pps*

4-day workshop

A unique corner of the Cederberg, almost martian-like in it’s terrain. Cederberg is well known by adventurers alike, and is a destination like no other to capture star trails spinning in the sky. We'll explore two stunning rock arches in this remote setting.

Kagga Kamma: Tours

Far from the big city lights, nestled deep in the Cederberg mountainous region lies two unique arches on a private nature reserve.
This region is a unique geographic location with Karoo-like wilderness, and natural martian-like rock formations scattered throughout. Over thousands of years, erosion has created characterful rocks that create compelling compositions for landscape photography.

But at night time these rock formations bring on a life of their own, as the shapes silhouetted against the bright starry sky create dramatic foreground subjects for keen astrophotographers.

This workshop is aimed at photographers keenly interested in honing their skills in star trail photography.

Our focus for this workshop will be on how to photograph star trails, in which we will teach you the different techniques of capturing these circles in the sky, whilst using compelling foreground subjects to enhance their beauty. The unique arches sit beautifully against the night sky and are positioned perfectly for capturing the circular motions in the sky. These is just two of the rock formations we will be photographing, as well as other unique rock compositions.

Kyle and Jon offer hands-on, personalised attention to help you get the shot. We will guide you through the relevant settings and help you utilise your camera to its fullest potential.

Photographing the night sky is always an awe-inspiring event, but our workshops are geared toward getting you shots that you are proud to have taken, while also learning how to take home the techniques and apply them in your future adventures.

ITINERARY

DAY 1

The Cederberg is well-known for it's beautiful rock formations and clear skies. This exactly why we have decided to run our astrophotography and star trail workshop in this stunning region.

Arrival followed by meet & greet at our accommodation at Zooridge Farmhouse, we will have a presentation on the different aspects of astrophotography and the techniques and settings we will use to best capture the night sky.

We will have an amazing home cooked meal and then head out to the iconic arches. We will focus on capturing night sky images with the unique rock formations in this area as well as star trails over the arch.

DAY 2 & 3

Sunrise will be an optional walk in the fynbos and rock formations near the accommodation followed by a full breakfast that won't leave you disappointed.

The morning will focus on an editing workshop where we will show how to edit your astrophotography images from the previous evening.

The afternoon will be a local braai with amazing salads and garlic breads.

In the evening session we will visit unique rock formations and the arches for time-lapses and star trails. The area is also ideal for mastering light-painting techniques with the unique textures and patterns.

DAY 4

Our last morning will be an optional sunrise shoot followed by breakfast.

It will then be time to say goodbye to new photography friends until the next adventure with VentureKJ.

Words from Previous Clients

Our group had an awesome time with Jon and Kyle shooting stars.  Both are very informative and attentive tutors.  I would definitely do more of their workshops.
